BABY WELLNESS PROGRAM

One
out of every 10 children are at risk from undiagnosed vision
problems. Chief among them is amblyopia (lazy eye), a leading
cause of loss of vision in people younger than 45.
To combat
this and other conditions, the American Foundation for Vision
Awareness has developed Operation Bright Start. OBS provides
eye and vision care during the first year of life. In support
of OBS, Family Vision Care Optometry is making "free"
vision assessment available to all children during their first
year of life (6 months - 1 year of age).
The first year of life is one of
the most critical stages of human development. A report
of a national Preschool Children's Vision Screening
Study Group concluded that "amblyopia, in principle at
least, is completely preventable" if risk factors are
detected in infancy. Assessments for early diagnosis of
vision impairment help identify this barrier to normal
childhood development.
Although vision disorders are the
most prevalent handicapping condition in childhood, the suffering and
struggles resulting from undiagnosed eye and vision problems can be
avoided. Comprehensive eye exams can be, and routinely are, performed on
infants. We try to make the experience a fun adventure for everyone,
including Mom and Dad. With proper professional care, vision problems
can be diagnosed and treated early in life. Parents of children in their
first year of life can call Family Vision Care Optometry for a "No Cost"
vision exam for their infant. |
